Part 1 Of 2 Complete In The Quest for 24 Derrick Mason Patches Part 2

This is the second part of my little game of Derrick Mason 24 Patch card show and tell.  Part one can be seen here.  Without further delay, here we go:

Patch 8 is a terrible scan of a beautiful card.  It is a 2008 Leaf Limited card featuring a rare cut of the stripe on the sleeve that often houses the elastic that keeps the sleeves tight for the receivers. This card is 2/50.

Patch 9 is one of my favorites.  It is a 2009 Donruss Elite Chain Reaction card.  I love this card because its window shows a sexy piece of the Maryland/Ravens seal patch.  It is serial numbered 21/50

Patches 10, 11, and 12 are all 2009 Absolute Memorabilia Absolute Heroes cards.  They are serial numbered 8, 46, and 15/50 respectively.  This a second card which I officially own 6% of the total print run of this card!

Half way there, more to come....

Part 1 Of 2 Complete in the Quest for 24 Derrick Mason Patches part 1

Well, I did it...kind of.  I reached a total of 24 Derrick Mason patches.  That is part 1 of my quest.  Part 2 is to have 24 unique patches,  I am close but not quite there yet.  So to spare you a ridiculously long post, I will show apll of them to you in a series of posts, this being the first.  Feast your eyes...
Patch 1 a 2005 Playoff Prestige Gridiron Heritage card, featuring Derrick as a Tennessee Titan.

Patch 2 is also a 2005 Playoff Prestige Gridiron Heritage card, featuring Derrick as a Tennessee Titan.  This patch is distinctly different in color than the other.

Patch 3 is a 2006 Leaf Rookies and Stars Standing Ovation patch serial #'d 11/25

Patch 4 is a 2001 Prism Atomic patch from Derricks Tennessee days.

Patches 5, 6, and 7 are all 2009 Donruss Classics Monday Night Heroes.  They are serial numbered 18, 20, and 14/50 respectively.  I officially own 6% of the total print run of this card!

Birds In The Box, And Maybe Two Dozen?

Although card money has been scarce recently, I have been able to sneak few cards on the cheap out of Ebay.  I really don't love the fact that any Cowboy worth buying is to pricey for come auction closing time, but so be it.  I have had much success in shopping the auctions for Ravens, and this past week has not been an exception.
This is either my second or third time buying this exact card.  This specific copy of the card is numbered 4/50.  I now own at lease 4% of the total print run of this dual patch card (possibly 6% if this is my third).  I will buy the rest of them if I can get them for only $4.50 shipped like i got this one!
The "Greatest Show On Earth," was fun to watch, unless they were throwing up and down the field on your team!  I snuck this card out for $3.50 shipped.  Yet another auction that ended at around 5am EST, I keep trying to warn the ebay sellers that I am the only person on earth that is up that early every day!
This Ray Rice is 17/50.  I broke the bank on this one at $6.36 shipped.  I was very pleased when Rice changed his jersey number from 39 to 27 because I wore 27 in high school (for baseball, I wore 28 high school for football-there was no 27 jersey, so I had to settle for 28).
$5.25 shipped for this puppy!  A triple patch, with Derrick Mason on it!  This Mason brings me to 23 on my quest for 24.  This was the first time I have ever seen this card, and I was very pleased to be able to get it.
This sweet card came from the same seller as the Heap card above.  It is numbered 19/25.  More importantly, if my math is correct (it is often wrong), this card brings my Mason patch total to 24.  Which means that I have completed part one of my quest for 24 Derrick Mason patches, getting a total of 24 patches.  Part two would be 24 unique patch cards.

I will spend a few minutes when I have some time to confirm that I have hit my goal of 24, and if so, I will scan and post all 24.  Until then, happy collecting!

Ebay Goodies Galore

Check these out, I got them on the cheap, and really don't care if they carry an significant value.  They are from the 2008 national, and I they cost me less than $10 for the two.

They didn't have anything like this at national last year in Baltimore.

This one is 5/50, only payed $5.00 for it (that includes s/h)

Fellow Sun Devil, 18/50, and under $5.00,  Sellers should really look at the end times for their auctions.  I am up at 4:30am every day, most people aren't.  If the auctions end time is at 4:45am, the card is mine!

A few 2010 Cowboys and Ravens That my father picked up at a card show and sent to me.

Hey Upper Deck, When Did Baylor wear red and white?

 Where is the mustache Lanny?

The Robinson cost me $8.00.  I really like the cap logo cards, If you have any O's let me know and we can try to work out a trade.  The Ozzie card Is a dual patch 2/20.  He is every bit as good a GM ass he was a player!
And to finish things off, a 19/50 Mason jersey.  Happy collecting, see you next time!

Pack Luck!

last week, I went to my local card shop and bought two packs of Topps Prime, I like the cards, they kind of remind me of the old Stadium Club sets.  Anyhow I got this sexy card
If you read my blog, then you know that I am a Ravens fan, but I bleed Cowboy blue.  The Cowboys have been my favorite team since I was 5 years old.  It is often tough to get Cowboys cards because the good ones usually don't sell cheap, so when I pull one in a pack, it really is a great feeling.  Its the kind of feeling that makes you forget about how much you spent on the pack, or how many terrible hits you have pulled recently, or even how long it has been since you even pulled a hit!  I love this card because I think Demaryius will be an impact WR in years to come.  I love this card because it's got Tebow and Bradford (just look at that winning smile)on it.  But most of all, I love this card because it has a 3-color (there is a teeny weeny bit of white in the far right corner) Dez Bryant Swatch on it!!!  Go Cowboys!

I also pulled a redemption from a 2010 Gridiron gear pack for a Tony Moeaki Platinum Signature card  #'d to 25.  He is a rookie tight end for the KC Chiefs and finished out the season with 47 catches for 556 yards and 3 TD's.  I did redeem it, so when it come in the mail, it will be available for trade if you are interested.

These are for Pop!

A few more pick ups at my card show on 1/8.  These are cards I will be shipping out to my father this week.  Enjoy, Pop!

Pretty sure the Samuel's swatch is from  his Patriots days, it is blue.

I know these are manufactured, but I like them a lot.  Topps did a good job with these and the manufactured hat logos too.

Derrick Mason 2010 As Predicted By Me!

At the beginning of the season when I confessed my goal of 24 Derrick Mason Patch cards, I also predicted his 2010 season stats.  Lets see how I did....

Mason had 61 receptions, I predicted 58.  I missed it by 3, a 5% margin of error. Ranked 39th in the NFL for 2010. (he was targeted 100 times, 37th in the NFL for 2010).

Mason had 802 yards receiving, I predicted 568.  He had 234 more yards than anticipated! (and 802 more receiving yards than me this year). Ranked 35th in the NFL for 2010.

And finally, Mason had 7 TD's, I predicted 10.  Still not too shabby! Ranked 21st (t) in the NFL for 2010.

A pretty good season for a 14 year veteran!  I sure hope he comes back for one more next season.  There is not a tougher WR out there and his numbers make a serious argument for HOF, but I fear that he will fall short of that accolade.

Behind Bill Bates, and Emmitt Smith, Derrick is my (3rd) favorite football player of all time.  I suggest you like him too!

If you have any Derrick Mason cards that you want to trade, hit me up and maybe we can work something out!

Card Show Goodies!!!

I really have to make more time to write some posts.  I have been working day and night, and when I am not working I am being a parent, and when I am not working or parenting I am trying to get some sweet deals on cards.  Going forward I think I will work less so I can blog more.  I have a lot of good stuff to share, so I will start with some of what I got at today's card show.

A 2005 Topps Pristine Gaylord Perry (the first Perry relic in my collection), and a nice orange swatch of Brian Roberts 32/50.  Man I have a ton of the Baseball Heroes jersey cards.

This Derrick Mason is a 2009 Absolute Memorabilia Absolute Heroes Patch 46/50.  This is #22 on my way to my goal of 24 Derrick Mason Patch cards.  I have a feeling that when when I reach my goal, I will not be able to stop collecting Mason patch cards, nor will I want to.

I love me some Baltimore Football Legends!  This was just too sweet to walk past...Too bad it wasn't Unitas.

32/50 on The Ray Rice (same serial # as the Brian Roberts card in the first picture), and I like the Flacco, because it is not only two pieces, but they are from two different (college) jerseys.

I met Todd Heap about 6 weeks ago, and he is a really nice guy, add in the fact that he is from my alma mater (Arizona State University (Terrell Suggs is too)), and how can I not buy another of his jersey cards.  It was also only $2.  Cut signatures of living players might be the dumbest thing ever.  Having said that, there is very little of the 1983 World Series MVP, Rick Dempsey, out there.  And I think I have most of what there is!  I did not know that this card existed, but in buying it, I also scored 1/2 of a 1985 Fleer card too!

I wonder what Nick is looking at?  Maybe he is thinking this is the year we finally are competitive, Now that Buck is here in Baltimore things are looking much brighter.

I don't buy Packs of super premium products because I would NEVER pull cards like this.  A Cub, A Cardinal, and baseball Immortality!

I also got a bunch of Ripken and Markakis cards from a dollar box, and several cards for team sets.  I also got a few cards for my father, I will post those in a day or two.  Overall, I am pleased with what I got at the show.

See you next time-
