20 And 21!!! And not quite 22.

To all of you on the edge of their seat, for those who simply cannot go on without an update, and of course for those keeping score at home...Her is an update on my quest for 24 Derrick Mason Patch cards.

Number 20 on my quest for 24 is a 2008 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia Absolute Heroes patch card.  It is 8/50.  It is the standard cut from the edge of the number, Probably the bottom of the 8 based on the slight curve.

The 21st is a 2006 Leaf Rookies & Stars Standing ) patch , 11/25.  As most patches are, it is the jersey number.  This one looks to be the inside of the 8 or the 5 of the Ravens black jersey.

And in at not quite 22, this 2006 Absolute Memorabilia Tools of the Trade card features pieces of his glove a shoe, 39/50.  It is a terrible scan...sorry.  I have always dug the TOT cards, and when I can get my hands on one featuring a player I collect or root for, all the better.

I just won #22 on ebay, so you will see it as soon a s my mailbox does!

One Good Turn Deserves Another!

Just like clockwork, I sent cards to my dad, and what do I get in return?...a package from my father!

You can never have too many Raymond Berry cards, and Romo is still tough to get cheap.

Where I live, Ravens are also not cheap, Ed Reed is a future HOFer, and Mason should be but will probably end up looking in from the outside.

Thanks Pop!

Package For Pop

Birthday and Holiday gifts are easy with my father. Since he collects cards, and I collect cards, we never have to go out searching for the perfect gift.  Here is a sample of what I sent to him. I am not worried about him spoiling the surprise reading this post because he has already opened the package!

I bet you couldn't guess that Pop is a Philly fan!

Mason Patch Count - 19

Here is #19 on the quest to 24, and this one is new to my collection.  The Patch is a bit faded, but it clearly came from the eight on the shoulder.

As for my prediction on his 2010 season statistics, after 8 games:

  • Mason has 37 catches, I said he will finish the season with 58.  Still on schedule!
  • Mason has 489 receiving yards, I said he will finish the season with 568.  Ahead of Schedule!
  • Mason has 3 touchdowns.  I predicted 10 for the season, looks like he will finish with about half of that.  I blame the Ravens O coordinator for having the most predictable offense in the NFL.

Good 'Ol Terrible Topps - The Markakis Edition

I got this awesome redemption card at National back in August

I went online and followed the directions to do the online redemption, and Topps promised me that my card would be ready on  11/20/2010....Well on 11/21/2010, I got this letter from Topps:

Dear Consumer.

This email is to inform you that the Topps Company is currently beyond the 15 week processing time allocated for the following redemption card:

PIN #: Product: Card/Player Name
S9RTP2TGT8 Topps Tribute Baseball Nick Markakis

Our staff is working diligently to process and ship your redemption card as soon as possible. Please continue to check your Online Redemption account for updates regarding the status of your card.

If you no longer wish to wait for the redemption card, please contact our Consumer Relations team in order to place a substitution request for a card of equal Beckett value.

Do not hesitate to contact our Consumer Relations department via phone at 1-800-489-9149 or via email at support@etopps.com for assistance. A consumer relations representative will be available to assist you Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30 pm (ET).

Sincerely,

Consumer Relations
The Topps Company, Inc.

I seriously doubt that they are "Working Diligently," to get my card for me...liars!  How diligent do you have to work to get an autograph (on a sticker probably) from a guy who did not make the post season and has no scheduled award ceremonies to attend.  It's not even like Nick is a HOFer.  Topps is just torturing me because Markakis is my favorite Oriole!

Every time Topps comes out with something cool or does something great, the screw it up by doing something like this.  Today, Topps really sucks!

This Turkey Is Thankful For....

This turkey is thankful for family, friends, good health, and these recent pickups:

Hall of Fame Corner Lem Barney (he also wore my HS baseball jersey #!)

Big Willy Patch.  This one is cool because it is actually the back of the "3" and it is upside down.

Before Kobe...There was Cooper!

All he did was catch touchdowns

These two were pack pulls

As a Cowboys fan, I grew up worshiping Tony D

The rare Nuggets Hall of Famer

Last but not least, Nicky Nice Guy

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Thank you for reading my blog, thank you for trading with me, and thank you for collecting.  Be safe, eat too much, and take a nap!

Accidental Card Show

So I took my son to the Lego store at the Arundel Mills Mall on Saturday morning, and in doing do I accidentally ran into a card show.  Well considering I had no card budget, and I have a 1st grader who really didn't share the same interests as me at the time, I think I did ok.  I only bought three cards.  I got two Colts.
I also picked up a nice Adam Jones manu-patch.  I got an awesome deal too...or did I?  The dealer had it marked at $50.00
Let me see...Adam Jones, #'d out of 99, manu-patch....My guess is that it is a $10, maybe $15, but definitely not $50.  This dealer was one of those guys that priced all of the home team cards outrageously.  I asked him how much he wanted for it, and he said $10.  WOW!  He was willing to take off a whopping 80%.  I told him I would give him $5.00.  I surely was asking too much...wasn't I?  I was asking for 90% off the original price!  He said yes!  You know the funniest part of the whole transaction was that he really thought that I believed I was getting a great deal.  $5 for a $10 card is not a bad deal, but it is no 90% of!  Anyhow, here is the card

Does Anyone Love The Browns?

Hey there sports fans, I have this little gem and I was going to throw it out there on ebay, but I figured that I would see if anyone wanted to trade for it before I did.

The "Rookie" down each side is not really blurry on the card, my scanner just has issues with reflective surfaces.  It is #'d 33/50.

If I have no offers by game time on Sunday, I will post it on ebay.  Any suggestions on how much to list it for?

I Found A New Blog...And I Love The NHL!!!

I was over on sportscardsradio.com forums and I found a now blog to follow.  So I click on the link and the first thing I see is FREE CARDS!   I think to myself, "We are going to get along just fine."  Anyhow it is PAW's Dugout SportsCards! go check it out when you get a chance!

Also the NHL is BRILLIANT, and if you are not a fan, this should make you one.  All-Star Game to feature new Fantasy Draft They have basically decided to take the pool 42 players and assign team captains to pick teams.  That sounds like it is going to be really fun to watch, and the players should have a great time with it too!  A "pick up game" for the all star game, that is just great.  Do you think the all stars will make fun of the player who gets picked last?

GO TEAM OVECHKIN!

Patch Time Baby!

If you have been reading my blog you know that I am a huge Derrick Mason fan.  You should also be aware of my quest to have 24 Derrick Mason patch cards by 2011's opening NFL Sunday.  If not, well, now you know!

I have been able to increase my Mason patch collection to a total of 18 patch cards (13 unique).  Here are the newbies:

So my quest continues.  I am now only 6 patches from my goal, I am 11 away if I try to make all 24 to be unique cards.  As for my prediction on his 2010 season statistics, after 8 games:
  • Mason has 30 catches, I said he will finish the season with 58.  Right on schedule!
  • Mason has 399 receiving yards, I said he will finish the season with 568.  Ahead of Schedule!
  • Mason has 2 touchdowns. Now I may have been a bit excited when I predicted 10 for the season, but he does still have 8 more games, you never know!

If you have any Derrick Mason patches or g/u's that you are willing to trade, let me know.

The Rest Of My Ebay Action.

Ok, so this is a continuation of my last post just kind of letting everyone know what's new in my collection vai ebay over the last two months.  I will post some more Derrick Mason patches soon too.

Cowboys are a tough pick up on ebay they usually bid their way out of my price range before they close, but every now and then I sneak one through.  With s/h, the Witten patch was only $4.50.  The Mason is a 2008 Score artists proof 4/32.
Some people hate seeing a jersey card of a player with a swatch from his old team.  Personally, I don't mind it at all, and in some instances, it really makes a card jump out at you.  The '08 Certified Materials Mason card above is a great example!
This is my first Wayne relic and it is not a patch, but is two colored and #'d 14/45  and last but not least is a card that i picked up with the Wicked Ortega in mind....maybe he would trade me that Ed Reed UD Black card for this...
I also just got a package from Pops in the mail today, I will scan those in and post what he sent next time.  And the official Mason patch count is coming soon as well!

See you next time!

Back In The Saddle!...And Pictures To Prove It!

I am sorry that I have been MIA for a month, but I am back.  So what has happened in my absence?....well...

-My Orioles had a great finish to what turned out to be a 265th consecutive losing season.  With the addition of Buck, there is yet another version of optimism for the coming season.  I certainly hope that this years optimism will pan out better than the last 12 years' vetrsions...

-My Cowboy are ready to win 9 straight games and win the Superbowl at home!...yeah right...  Thankfully rooting for the Ravens in the AFC as my #2 has been enjoyable.

My card collecting budget has all but disappeared which has sadly kept me from going to any card shows since National was here in Baltimore last August.  I have been bargain shopping on ebay, and have had a bit of success with that.  I have also made a few additions to my Derrick Mason patch collection.

So, without further delay, here is some hot ebay action:

The Rick Bary is 2/25, and even though I do not like the Celtics, I do collect NBA HOFers, so the Cowens is a nice addition to my collection.

My favorite from the Bowman Sterlings above is the Laimbeer.  I love the mask, it seemed like that guy had a broken nose his entire career...he probably just wore it to protect his face when he got into fights (every other night)
I am a big fan of the TOTT cards, I actually got a chance to meet Todd Heap a few weeks back and had a nice conversation with him, he is a really nice guy.  The fact that I also went to Arizona State was a great conversation starter!
The McCoy ans Maclin are both for my father, and I bought 2 packs of epix and got the Sproles in one and the Pike in the other.
I will wrap this post up with my $2.00 Ripken.  If you ask me any Ripken g/u for $2.00 is an absolute steal!

It is good to be back posting.  I have more cards to post form the last 2 months of ebay, and a few more Mason patches too, so stay tuned, there is more to come!
