National Was Awesome - Part 2, The Continuation...

Here is the rest of my National booty.

The Aikman just pretty.  HOFer Emmitt has bonus Barry and Thurman (he found his helmet) on it.  Bob Lilly is an NFL great, this one is a sticker, but the next (Lilly) is not.  Bill Bates is my all time favorite football player, and hero!  This is my first auto of his and it has a 3 color patch with it, 16/25.

This Lilly is an on card auto, and a beauty at that!  I did not pay anywhere near the $40 price tag that is on it.  The Romo was a lucky pull, I won 10 packs of UD Football Heroes spinning the wheel at the D & A Card World booth, and the Romo was inside!  The second of three "New HOF Inductee," Emmitt Smith cards I got is a sexy looking patch!

The front of the card (top), Emmitt, Bo, and Barry was worth the price alone.  The back (bottom) is ok too, but McFadden, really?

Five greats (front and back), and I like Stafford.  Staubach was the first jersey my kid ever had, it was a onesie jersey, who knew they even made those?

These are my two favorite pickups at National.  The Frank Robinson just sings verses to me every time I look at it.  I love the Ryan card for lots of reasons, the best part is that it is a two color swatch from an Astros jersey (on a card that has him as a Ranger).

And finally, what could end up being my favorite card from National...but I may never know, it is a redemption card.  Well, I went online and redeemed it, and the friendly Topps website said it will ship on 11/20/2010.  I will believe it when I see it.  I could not resist the gamble (only a ten dollar bill)!

Opinions of national still to come...

National Was Awesome - Part 2, The Beginning...

Here I am again in part 2 of my National recap.  This blog will focus on my favorite pick ups from National.  I was able to fill several sets, and pick up some sweet singles also, but these are the cream of the g/u and auto crop.  Enjoy

Every now and then I like to dip and dab into some NBA greats.  I love the Murad Bill Walton Jersey.  The Ainge card has a part of the Boston Garden Parquet floor, and the Hakeem is /50.  Oh yeah, how could I possibly pass up on a dual Miggy for only $2???  the four cards above cost me only $17.

This is some local flavor.  I love on card autos, but stickers do not really bother me.  The Roberts is a sticker and so is the Zimmerman (duh).  The Markakis is an on card auto that I bought from a dealer I see all the time doing the local shows.  Markakis is my favorite (active) player, so there is no way I was passing up on this one.  The Frank Robinson is such a sweet card, instantly one of my favorites in my collection.

Antonio Gates, 3 color patch, I just liked it, so I bought it.  Love me some Cowboy/Raven Cunningham (there is also an Anthony Wright patch on the other side...wonder what ever happened to him).  As an alum of ASU and a Ravens fan (they are my #2)  I was diggin on the Suggs card.  And Deion is one of my all time favorite players.  The greatest cover corner EVER, there is no argument!  The card is a 3 color cut from the sleeve, and the best part is, it is a card of him as a Redskin (wearing a Cowboys uniform and a Cowboys swatch)!

The Largent card just reminded me of what i looked like catching footballs back in my High school days.  I did not have a black g/u of Ochocinco...now I do.

More to come....

National Was Awesome - Part 1

National was indeed awesome!  As we all know it was right in my back yard this year, and as a result I got to go for the first time.  My dad flew up from Florida and went with me on Thursday and Friday.  We had a great time!

This blog is a review of just some of the stuff my dad scored.  Part 2 will be some of my scores.  Last but not least I will post part 3 which will be my overall review and comments about the 2010 National.

Just keep in mind that Pops is a Philly man through and through.
Pops also filled out a few sets and team sets, and got some vintage cards too.  I gotta say that when we found out he needed both knees replaced about a year ago, we were both afraid that he would not be able to make it.  He rehab'd hard though and was able to walk around the ginormous Baltimore convention center for two days in a row on brand new knees!
