2010 baseball is here, and it is snowing

So we have about 4-6 inches of snow today, and it is still snowing, but that did not stop me from seeing the 2010 Topps Baseball packs.  So, of course, I bought two packs.  They are ok.  Kind of what you expect from a base set.  At least Topps doesn't use the exact same design every year like Upper Deck.  I do like the Million Card Giveaway promotion.  There is one in every 6 packs. so it is not such a rare thing, and it is in retail and hobby packs.  The promo doesn't actually start until February 15th so if you pull one like I did, don't forget to go back and redeem it.

That is all for today, back to watching the snow for me!

Mason Strikes Again

I would like to thank ray Rice for having the fantastic season that he had.  Because of Rice's success, Derrick Mason cards have been flying under the radar as far as price goes.  Mason is  one of my favorite players, and hopefully a future Hall of Fame candidate.  Consider the following:

-He has more career receptions that Michael Irvin, JamesLofton, Steve Largent, John Stallworth, and Lynn Swann

-He has more receiving yards than Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, and trails Michael Irvin by only 815.

-He has more receiving touchdowns than Lynn Swann, and trails Stallworth by only 4, Irvin by 6, and Art Monk by 9.

Now, to the mailbox!!!

It appears that the cut on the Monday Night Heroes card is the "K" from teh name plate on the back of the jersey 18/50.  The Leaf Limited is pretty cool, it is the stripe on the trim of the sleeve opening 2/50.

The Koji Uehara is the product of a box break from 'I Am Joe Collector.'  The Rookies and Stars Longevity Mason is and awesome cut of the Baltimore Ravens/Maryland patch on the sleeve.  What is really cool about it is that when I got the card I could have sworn that it was a fake, the pattern was all wrong....then I flipped it upside down and it matched the patch perfect.  it is the only upside down patch in my entire collection! It is numbered 8/50.

Some Links You Might Find Interesting

Well, my 5 year old woke me up at 6:30 this wonderful holiday AM, so I have been surfing the web a little while he catches up on his cartoons.  I have come across a few  great links I think it would be a shame not to share.  I will do this every now and then.

This is by far the most comprehensive collection of sports logos in universe.  Just about the only logo that is missing is the screaming eagle form the side of my high school football helmet. http://www.sportslogos.net/

This is a great site where you can get everything from blank stat sheets to player grave site photos to baseball stats formulas to quotes to historical baseball stats.  For example on the list of all time leaders for grounding into double plays there are 7 of my Bird's in the top 30 (1. Ripken, 5. Murray, 9. Baines, 10. B. Robinson, 17. Frank Robinson, 27. Singleton, 30. Tejada...we also lead the league in Greatest Stadium Ever!!!!)  http://www.baseball-almanac.com/index.shtml

Here is an Orioles blog http://www.camdenchat.com/ that looks to be worth giving a chance. It has the first mention that the O's may be going after  Joe Crede .  I found it in http://www.sbnation.com/ which is a sports page with connections to blogs for every team in each of the four major sports and more.

I think that is good for now.  Have a great MLK day!

Terrible weekend

First the Ravens lost, then the Cowboys lost.  At least the Orioles didn't lose...

Gargantuan Mail Day!!! part 6

...and...last but certainly not least...

The Ripken is a gem, and there is no way I could have got it for less than Beckett here in Baltimore, it is 17/50,  The Palmer is a great early 80's orange and it is 68/100.

I gotta get a lot of Phillies and Eagles to pay pops back for this package!

Gargantuan Mail Day!!! part 5

....and

Tippy is a tough auto to find! The manufactured Robinson patch is numbered 57/75

Gargantuan Mail Day!!! part 4

....and,

Gargantuan Mail Day!!! part 3

...and,

Tough to read in the scan, the Robinson is numbered 37/50

Gargantuan Mail Day!!! part 2

...and,

Too bad the Masterpieces Flacco wasn't a patch...Oh well, I still love it!

Gargantuan Mail Day!!!

So my dad goes in for his second knee replacement surgery in the last 7 months (different legs) on January 13th, I talk to him that morning before his surgery and he tells me that he sent me a small package with  few cards the day before.  That's cool.  My dad lives in a different part of the country and scores a lot of O's and Ravens that I can't get my hands on or won't pay the home town prices for.

Well, the package was waiting for me yesterday when I got home from work...all I can say is that My father has truly outdone himself this time.  Not only did it have two 400 count boxes filled with Orioles, Ravens and Cowboys...but it also had a metric ton of relic and autos!!!  This, and the next 5 posts will contain scans of what really was an epic "Mail Day!"

I am a liar

It appears that I am a liar.  I must have forgotten about this one, because it was a real surprise to get it in the mail today!

Behold, a 2009 Certified Derrick Mason  1 color patch 37/50 (I think if you look really really close you can see a droplet of a second color, it appears to be gold...maybe...)

Mail Day

Well out of the 19, that's right 19, items on Ebay that I bid on last week, I won an astounding,,,,1.   No really, that is actually a good thing, I am happy with the card I won.

Thanks to the amazing season Ray Rice is having in Baltimore, a lot of collectors are overlooking a future Hall of Famer on that same very team.  Well now, don't be silly, no one has forgotten about Ray Lewis!!!  I am talking about Derrick Mason.  This guy is one of my favorite football players ever!  He is the pictuer next to the "There is no 'I' in team" entry in the dictionary.  This guy leaves it all on the field.  Last year, he played 5 games with a dislocated shoulder (3 in the playoffs), and made one of the most ridiculous catches I have ever seen.  C'mon now, you remember it, It was against my beloved Cowboys.  I am talking about the, excuse me while I just catch this TD pass while my are is falling off, catch!  Mason's career numbers are more than comparable with many of the WR's already enshrined...or better

Anyhow, below is my new 2006 Leaf Rookies & Stars Longevity Derick Mason 3-color patch card 23/25,

Enjoy.

Card Show Success!!! part 2

Ok, here is part 2 of my card show booty.  Enjoy!

Card Show Success!!! part 1

Well, as promised, here is what I got at the Show on 1/9 in Glen Burnie. I did get several cards I need to fill in team sets for my father and I. I also got a few cards that I just plain liked too. Mostly due to the fact that I am lazy, I do not scan one card at a time. If the scans look like crap to you , I assure you that it is the scanner and not the cards.

Its On

The car repairs were cheap (this time), so the card show is on. I will mostly be looking to fill team sets, but I am always on the prowl for some GU's or autos. I will post my findings.

Back and Ready to Get Going Again

Ok, here I am again. This time I am ready to go! I have a card show on Saturday and I hope to do some major damage there. There is only one problem, a 1991 Chevy Cavalier, and the mechanic it has been spending quality time with for the last two days. I am to get her back today, but I have no ideah what the repairs will cost. If that cars takes too much $$ from me, I will have to use my card money on my car.

I hope to bne much more active with the whole bloggin thing going forward, so stay tuned....
